Thankfully Gus is recovering from November health scare and learning shed hunting

April 2nd, 2015 by | 2

Gus is back 100 percent mentally and 60 percent physically from what the veterinarian diagnosed in November as over-exhaustion. I was afraid he would die. Though he is retired from hunting birds, and Gus is enjoying life again. I bought him some shed bumpers so he can learn a new skill. Had he died, this video would have been his last hunt.

I've been an investigative reporter for more than 40 years and taught journalism at the college level for another 10. I've owned and trained retrievers, pointers and spaniels for about the same amount of time. My love of the outdoors and interest in cooking, eating and libations has been life-long, starting on my family's farm in Indiana and the hearty home-cooked meals there.
